Stitch Fix Stylists and clients alike are loving the return of wide-leg cropped denim styles this season. They are prim, practical and exude power and femininity. Inspired by the garb of the South American gauchos of 18th-19th century, the modern pant style of the same name is very similar to what we now know as “culottes.”
Although culottes were originally created to look more like a skirt, the two terms are often used interchangeably to describe wide-leg cropped pants these days.
Finding a pair that won’t overwhelm your petite frame may take some patience, but is definitely possible. Opt for cropped wide-leg jeans that have a less dramatic flare to avoid being swallowed up by the denim. Pair them with heels to add height—and if heels won’t work for you, a pointed toe flat will have a similar elongating effect. Also, keep in mind that light wash denim will help give the illusion of a longer frame in comparison to dark wash denim.
