What to Wear to Work This Fall Without Overthinking It

Fall workwear for men

Men’s workwear is evolving. Offices aren’t one-size-fits-all anymore, and your wardrobe shouldn’t be either. Fall 2025 brings upgraded staples—versatile pieces that sharpen your look without adding stress to your mornings. The best part? You don’t need a full closet overhaul. With just a few key swaps, you can look polished and feel comfortable, no matter your dress code.

We asked our Stitch Fix Stylists to break down what’s in this season and how to wear it. Explore our no-fuss guide to men’s fall work outfits, then schedule your first Fix today.

Shirts for the office in the fall

Fall Shirts: Swolos + Classic Button-Downs

This season, the work shirt is getting an upgrade. Swolos (AKA sweater polos) blend the polish of a collared shirt with the comfort of a knit sweater. They’re breathable, versatile and pair just as well with trousers as they do with dark-wash jeans. Stylist Erin says, “A fine-knit swolo partners well with a trouser to add a touch of texture that instantly sharpens your workwear look.”

Meanwhile, you can’t beat the timelessness of a crisp button-down—it’s still the backbone of men’s fall business casual attire. Stylist Caro advises, “Neutral or muted colors make mixing easy, while subtle patterns like grids or micro dots add interest without being flashy.”

Pants for men in the fall

Fall Bottoms: Dark-Wash Denim + Commuter Pants

This season, two styles are leading the pack: dark-wash denim for casual Fridays (or for more casual settings) and commuter pants, designed with performance attributes. These styles feature tech like 4-way stretch and moisture-wicking, but still have a polished look

If your office allows it, definitely wear a pair of jeans to work. It’s a nice switch up to your typical bottom options. “Dark-wash denim reads polished and professional, perfect with button-downs and classic blazers,” says Erin. When in doubt, you can never go wrong with commuter pants. Grey, black or khaki colors are classic colors that match just about everything—making it easy to get dressed in the morning.

jackets for the office in the fall

Fall Business Casual Jackets: Reversible Bombers + Blazer

Your fall work jacket does more than keep you warm—it sets the tone for your whole look. This season we’re all about the reversible bomber—it offers two styles in one, making it perfect for hybrid schedules and even weekend wear. Stylist Erin offers this outfit idea, “Layer it over a crisp patterned button-down shirt pairing with trousers and leather loafers.”

For a more overtly men’s business casual jacket option, go for a blazer. “A blazer, meanwhile, is the tried-and-true layering piece that instantly sharpens any outfit,” says Stylist Mathew. Make sure the fit is tailored but comfortable—shoulders aligned, sleeves grazing the wrist bone. If you want to avoid feeling overly formal, layer the blazer over a sweater polo or fine-knit sweater instead of a button-down. It keeps the outfit smart but not stuffy.

shoes for the office in the fall

Fall Shoes: Clean Sneakers + Loafers

The right shoes anchor your outfit. This fall, we’re loving a clean sneaker to ground your outfit. Perfect for more relaxed days, it can work across dress codes—it’s all in how you style them. Stylist Erin says, “Sneakers can be a smart fall choice when styled thoughtfully.” She continues, “Wear them with tailored trousers, dark denim or structured workwear layers to create a modern, approachable look that balances professionalism with ease.”

For a dressier, more classic option, go for a pair of loafers. Pair them with slim or straight-leg trousers that break just above the shoe (no pooling at the ankle). Stylist Mathew adds, “A neutral pair of black or dark brown loafers can easily pair with different color combinations and always look great.”
