“Work Appropriate” isn’t what is used to be. More and more, offices are trending toward a more casual work environment, giving us the opportunity to experiment with our workplace style. Denim has become a constant in office attire, with so many varieties working for work.
- Dark denim is less casual: Dark wash jeans pull double duty as a figure slimming pair of pants, but also give a more office-appropriate feel. Plus, you can pick up a pair of black, navy and raw wash jeans for a buttoned-up feel.
- Your top can dress up denim: Make your denim 9-to-5 appropriate by dressing it up with a silk tunic or a blazer. Just swap out your slacks for jeans and you’ll be ready for the office.
Classic and versatile, the skinny jean is a chic, sharp start to your work look. While your office may be casual, stick to a darker wash skinny jean for a more professional feel. Skinny jeans are also the most versatile when it comes to footwear. Wear your ankle length skinnies with a printed flat and tunic style top to elevate the more laid-back, leggings style. If your skinnies are on the longer side, try a small cuff and pair with booties.
With a looser fit and casual feel, your boyfriend jeans are a fabulous work-to-weekend staple. Pair a light wash boyfriend jean with a black blouse to dress up your denim and add a wedge sandal. Distressed denim can work here, just pair your boyfriend jeans with a feminine blouse. Add a blazer for structure and finish with a classic pump.
The boot is back in full force, along with its flared and trouser-cut cousins. This style is perfect for those with a curvier bottom half, since these jeans balance out your hips with a wider leg. As with skinnies, opt for a medium dark to dark wash. You’ll give off a more professional feel and can then pair with more casual tops.
Denim trends aren’t just for the weekend! Dress up your frayed hem skinnies with a peep-toe pump or try out the cropped flare trend with wedge espadrilles, a classic white tee and safari-inspired olive vest. Bold-hued and printed denim are both fun ways to elevate your office style! Pair with muted tops to keep the look work appropriate.
With so many options, every day will be an opportunity to amp up your office style.
