Keep reading for Sheila’s take on My Body, My Style.
How would you describe your body shape?
I’m 5’0” and consider myself an hourglass shape.
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style is chameleonic, and it’s greatly influenced by how I’m feeling that day. One day I could be dressed in all black or solids, and the next day I could be wearing a floral kimono or a blouse with dolphins. If there’s one constancy between the different styles though, it’s that the pieces are comfortable.
Has your body shape informed the way that you dress?
Definitely. Through the years I have learned which pieces flatter me and which don’t. Boxy styles are a no-no, but clothes fitted on the right places can make a huge (and good!) difference. The downside of this is that at times it can be quite hard to get out of the box and try new things. But, I’ve been working on that.
What is your go-to piece and why?
This is a difficult question since the answer depends on the occasion. However, if I had to choose just one go-to piece I’d have to say dark skinny jeans. I can wear them with T-shirts and sneakers for a casual look, or I can pair them up with a button-up shirt, jacket and heels for something more formal.
What outfit makes you feel amazing?
I’m a huge fan of A-line dresses for when I want to feel confident and spectacular. On their own, they tend to be my piece of choice for date nights. For professional conferences and meetings, I pair them with a blazer.
Any styling tips and tricks you can share?
First, it doesn’t matter how pretty the piece is if you don’t feel comfortable in it. Also, when trying a new piece think about it in the long term. Is this something that I would wear more than once? How would I feel after having this on for more than 6 hours? Can I pair this with different items for multiple looks? Those are all the things I take into account before making a purchase.
