Sounds like you will be quite the jet-setter next month! The key to maximizing luggage space while accommodating a varying climate like Costa Rica is packing light layers. Here are some things to consider when packing for your trip:
- Versatility is going to be your very best friend. Since the weather fluctuates in Costa Rica—it can be warm and sunny one minute and raining the next—take pieces like blouses and tanks that you can layer with a lightweight cardigan or wear alone when the weather warms up.
- Consider your activities. If you plan on spending your days at the beach, make sure you have a handful of swimsuits and cover-ups. For hiking and other activities, consider workout wear like yoga pants and dry-fit tops. They are lightweight for the weather and for packing while providing protection from the sun.
- Pack neutrals. By utilizing an interchangeable color palette, you will get the most versatility out of the pieces you pack. Mix and match for a variety of different looks. If you love color, integrate it by packing a few colorful baubles such as a statement necklace, stack of bangles, or even a light scarf.
If you can’t help yourself and are a natural over-packer, invest in some travel vacuum bags. They will help minimize space in your luggage by compacting your clothes. Lastly, I suggest packing mosquito repellant wipes for the evenings and anti-histamine as the sand ticks in Costa Rica are incredibly itchy!
