While working as a consultant in the retail industry, Stitch Fix founder and CEO Katrina Lake was inspired by women in her life who always looked put together, whether they were out walking the dog on a Saturday morning or working a late night at the office. She wanted to help busy women like herself by creating a new shopping experience that would help women look and feel their best, not by dressing them in the latest trends or high-end brands, but by finding them the right pieces that best fit their lifestyle and flattered their bodies.
Katrina saw that retailers were missing out on the opportunity to use feedback from their customers to create a more convenient and delightful retail experience tailored to the unique needs of busy women. Katrina believed a new retail concept could help women discover and explore their style, and applied to Harvard Business School with the intention of founding a company during her time there. She secured the first seed funding and founded the company in 2011, while she was in school, and shipped the first Fixes right out of her apartment on 41 Hawthorne Street in Cambridge.
Since 2011, Stitch Fix has grown to over 200 employees and is headquartered in San Francisco, CA.
Katrina is passionate about helping women achieve everyday confidence. She founded Stitch Fix to help women everywhere discover and explore their style through a truly client-focused shopping experience.
Prior to founding Stitch Fix, Katrina developed extensive experience at the intersection of fashion, retail, and technology. She managed the blogger platform at venture-backed social commerce company Polyvore and consulted with a variety of e-commerce and traditional retailers during her time at The Parthenon Group. Additionally, she has invested in and worked with dozens of entrepreneurs and start-ups at Leader Ventures.
Katrina holds a B.S. in Economics from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
